Our Story

A deep connection exists between America’s favorite pastime and America’s favorite peanut spread. In fact, peanut butter is as much a part of baseball as hot dogs, sunflower seeds and bubble gum. It’s a tasty tradition and one that stretches from dugout to dugout all across America.

HomePlate Peanut Butter was created by a group of former professional baseball players who grew up playing baseball every day and eating a ton of peanut butter. During those long days in the minor leagues, they counted on the delicious spread. A sandwich at daybreak and another one at day’s end. Loaded up on some saltines before a workout. A tasty spoonful for a boost between innings. They grew to love peanut butter as an inexpensive and accessible way to stay fueled and fit.

Unfortunately, their options were limited to big sugary brands and oily, chemical-laden concoctions. They didn’t want to stir their peanut butter. And they wanted peanut butter that was delicious, but fit their training regimens. After they retired from the game and began grocery shopping for their own little leaguers, they became convinced that families, athletes and America deserved a better peanut butter.

HomePlate Peanut Butter’s mission is to create peanut butter that meets the rigid standards set by the professional baseball players who make up the company’s founding team. Every flavor is made from natural and sustainable ingredients.. No goopy oil layer, or gritty, chalky texture, just wholesome, great tasting peanut butter.

In fact, HomePlate Peanut Butter was selected as the official peanut butter of the Professional Baseball Clubhouse Manager’s Association. Clint was the founder of Greenleaf Book Group (www.greenleafbookgroup.com). GBG, an Inc 500 Company, is a leading publisher and book distributor. Clint sold the company in 2011 and recently left his active role. Clint (a CPA) sits on the University of Texas Libraries Board, blogs for lnc.com and CNN Money, and is a regular guest host on Fox Business Network. He has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Inc magazine, Fox, CNBC, CNN, MSNBC, Money magazine, Men’s Health, Forbes and Entrepreneur among others. Clint sits on corporate boards, is a NACD Governance Fellow, and speaks about personal finance and entrepreneurship across the country and internationally at conferences, seminars and schools.
DANNY PEOPLESFounding Partner
Danny was a professional baseball player from 1996 – 2002, spending time at various professional levels with the Cleveland Indians and New York Mets. After concluding his baseball career Danny moved into the employee benefits space and co-founded Ball Peoples, one of Austin’s most successful benefits consulting firms.
JOSH BECKETTFounding Partner
Josh Beckett is a retired pitcher who played for the Florida Marlins, Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers. While with the Marlins, Beckett won the 2003 World Series, and did it again with the Red Sox in 2007.
BROOKS KIESCHNICKFounding Partner
Brooks Kieschnick played six seasons in the major leagues for the Chicago Cubs, Milwaukee Brewers, Cincinnati Reds and Colorado Rockies. Before he was drafted to the Cubs, he played for the University of Texas Longhorns. He is the only baseball player to win the Dick Howser Trophy twice.
MIKE LOWELLFounding Partner
Mike Lowell was a third baseman in the major league for 13 years for the New York Yankees, Florida Marlins and Boston Red Sox. In 2007, he took the title of World Series MVP while with the Red Sox in a four-game sweep against the Colorado Rockies.
MARCO SCUTAROFounding Partner
Marco Scutaro is an infielder that started playing in the major leagues with the New York Mets in 2002. He has also played for the Oakland Athletics, Toronto Blue Jays, Boston Red Sox, Colorado Rockies and San Francisco Giants. While with the Giants, Scutaro was named the MVP of the 2012 National League Championship Series.
JOHN MCDONALDFounding Partner
John McDonald played in the major leagues for the Cleveland Indians, Toronto Blue Jays, Detroit Tigers, Arizona Diamondbacks, Pittsburgh Pirates, Philadelphia Phillies, Boston Red Sox and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. While he was mostly a shortstop, McDonald was a jack-of-all-trades, he could also step in for second base, third base, left field and even pitcher.
